Faculty and staff play an important role in supporting students both inside and outside the classroom. This page highlights several University policies and resources that advisors should be familiar with when working with students.

Visit the University Catalog website for a [full list of academic regulations](https://catalog.uconn.edu/undergraduate/academic-regulations/).

## CLAS Academic Policies

The University has a set of academic regulations that all undergraduate students must follow. In addition, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences maintains its own policies on topics, including academic misconduct, grade appeals, graduation, and readmission to the College. Visit the [CLAS Undergraduate Education website](https://undergraduate.clas.uconn.edu/policies/) to learn more.

## Student Privacy (FERPA)

The [Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)](https://privacy.uconn.edu/ferpa-overview/guidelines-for-faculty-and-staff/) protects the privacy of student education records and governs when student information may be shared. Faculty and staff should understand their responsibilities under FERPA before discussing or releasing student information.

## Reporting Responsibilities

All members of the UConn community share responsibility for maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment. Faculty and staff should be familiar with information about [mandatory reporting](https://advising.uconn.edu/mandated-reporting/) and the University’s [Policy Against Discrimination, Harassment, and Related Interpersonal Violence](https://policy.uconn.edu/2015/12/29/policy-against-discrimination-harassment-and-related-interpersonal-violence/).

## Center for Students with Disabilities

The [Center for Students with Disabilities (CSD)](https://csd.uconn.edu/accommodations/accommodation-types/#academic) coordinates academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities. Accommodations are determined on an individual, course-by-course basis in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and other applicable laws.

Faculty members who have questions about implementing accommodations or who wish to refer a student for support should [contact the Center for Students with Disabilities](https://disabilities.center.uconn.edu/contact-us/contact-form/).

## Student Support Resources

Students sometimes experience personal, financial, health, or academic challenges that affect their success. When concerns extend beyond the classroom, faculty and staff can [connect students with University resources](https://catalog.uconn.edu/undergraduate/student-resources/), including the Dean of Students Office, Counseling and Mental Health Services, the Center for Career Readiness and Life Skills, and other student support offices.
