CLAS students complete University and College degree requirements while building a program of study that supports their academic and career goals. This page provides an overview of common curriculum requirements and course planning.

## Courses and Degree Requirements

Students complete University Common Curriculum requirements, major and minor requirements, and additional College requirements to earn a CLAS degree.

- [University Common Curriculum](https://catalog.uconn.edu/undergraduate/common-curriculum/): Students entering UConn in fall 2025 or later, or readmitted in fall 2025 or later, complete the University Common Curriculum. Additional guidance for CLAS students is available on the CLAS Undergraduate website.
- [Major and Minor Requirements](https://catalog.uconn.edu/undergraduate/liberal-arts-sciences/#programstext): The University Catalog is the official source for major and minor requirements.
- [Additional CLAS Degree Requirements](https://catalog.uconn.edu/undergraduate/liberal-arts-sciences/#requirementstext): CLAS students must also complete College-specific degree requirements before graduation.

## Course Catalog and Class Search

Faculty and staff can use the University Catalog to browse course descriptions and degree requirements or search the Schedule of Classes to view course offerings by semester.

- [Directory of Courses](https://catalog.uconn.edu/undergraduate/courses/)
- [Search the Schedule of Classes](https://classes.uconn.edu/)

## Course Registration

Students register for courses before each semester through Student Administration System. For registration dates, enrollment appointments, holds, and common registration questions, refer to the [Registrar’s website](https://registrar.uconn.edu/registration/).

## Excess Credit Requests

Students who wish to enroll in more than 17 credits during a fall or spring semester must generally submit an [Excess Credit Request](https://uconn.kualibuild.com/app/6a590d15d2a5c1029eabf045/start) through the CLAS Academic Services Center.

Requests are reviewed after final grades from the student’s most recent regular semester have posted. First-year and transfer students may not enroll in more than 17 credits during their first semester at UConn.

## Experiential Global Learning Course Substitutions

Some courses completed through education abroad may satisfy University Common Curriculum requirements. Students requesting a substitution for approved Experiential Global Learning coursework should submit the appropriate substitution request through the CLAS Academic Services Center.
