## What is Academic Standing

The University uses academic standing to track a student’s academic progress.

Students who earn a semester or cumulative GPA below 2.0 are placed on academic notice (formerly called scholastic warning or scholastic probation). Students who do not meet the University’s minimum academic standards over multiple semesters may become subject to dismissal and may ultimately be dismissed from the University.

## Supporting Students on Academic Notice

The **CLAS Academic Services Center (ASC)** coordinates support for students on academic notice. Professional academic success advisors work with students to review their Academic Success Plans, connect them with campus resources, and help them understand University policies and the steps needed to return to good academic standing.

After the 10th day of classes, a registration hold is placed on the student's record in the Student Administration System. Students must complete their Academic Success Plan and meet with an academic success advisor before the hold can be removed.

**Staff and faculty advisors** in a student’s major continue to play an important role by mentoring students, discussing course selection and academic goals, and encouraging them to use the support resources available to them. Students on academic notice should continue meeting with their assigned major advisor while also completing the requirements established by the Academic Services Center.
