Advertising and sponsorships purchased on behalf of a CLAS entity must represent the University professionally and comply with <u>[UConn brand standards](https://brand.uconn.edu/)</u> and University purchasing requirements.

<u>[University Communications](https://universitycommunications.uconn.edu/)</u> and <u>[Procurement Services](https://procurement.uconn.edu/)</u> oversee advertising and sponsorships across the University. Within CLAS, the Office of Communications and the Business Center can help you navigate the approval process, develop effective messaging, and ensure purchases meet University requirements before commitments are made.

## Before You Purchase Advertising or Sponsorships

All advertising and sponsorship requests for University events and programs must be reviewed and approved before you make a commitment to an external organization.

CLAS faculty and staff can start the approval process by <u>[submitting a request to the CLAS Business Center](https://clas.refined.site/portal/124?createRequest=true&portalId=124&requestTypeId=823?autoLogin=true)</u>. They will coordinate the required reviews with the CLAS Office of Communications, University Communications, and Procurement Services, as appropriate.

All purchases must follow University procurement policies and use an approved purchasing method. Faculty and staff should obtain an approved purchase order before providing advertising copy, artwork, or other materials to an external vendor.

## Developing Your Advertisement

### Messaging and Text

Advertising copy should highlight the strengths of the University and serve a clear business purpose.

The CLAS Office of Communications can help develop messaging, review copy, and recommend content strategies that align with University guidelines and best practices. For assistance, email <u>[clas_communications@uconn.edu](mailto:clas_communications@uconn.edu)</u> or [contact the CLAS Director of Communications](https://clas.uconn.edu/about/directory/?group=Dean%E2%80%99s%20Office&tag=Communications).

### Artwork and Design

Advertising and sponsorship artwork should be created by University Communications or, if developed independently, reviewed and approved by University Communications and the appropriate <u>[school or college brand contact](https://brand.uconn.edu/brand-contacts/school-college-regional-department-contacts/)</u> before it is published.

University Communications provides design services for advertisements and other marketing materials at no cost, subject to staff availability and the scope of the project.

To request design assistance, <u>[submit a creative resource request](https://uconnucomm.wufoo.com/forms/qhyxqxj0rm61qw/)</u>. Please submit your request as early as possible to allow adequate time for review and design.

### Logos and Branding

Advertisements should use an official [UConn wordmark](https://brand.uconn.edu/visual-identity/university-logo-hierarchy/) and follow the [University’s visual identity guidelines](https://brand.uconn.edu/visual-identity/guidelines/). Logos or marks that have not received University approval should not be used in advertising or sponsorship materials.

If you need assistance selecting or obtaining an approved UConn wordmark, please email <u>[clas_communications@uconn.edu](mailto:clas_communications@uconn.edu)</u> or [contact the CLAS Director of Communications](https://clas.uconn.edu/about/directory/?group=Dean%E2%80%99s%20Office&tag=Communications).
