The [CLAS Business Center](https://facultystaff.clas.uconn.edu/portal/124?autoLogin=true) helps departments navigate University hiring and payroll processes for faculty, staff, graduate assistants, student employees, and temporary appointments. While University offices manage payroll policies and systems, the Business Center can answer questions, assist with transactions, and help departments complete required processes.

For assistance with hiring and payroll, [open a support request](https://facultystaff.clas.uconn.edu/portal/124?createRequest=true&portalId=124&requestTypeId=841?autoLogin=true) or email [bsc@uconn.edu](mailto:bsc@uconn.edu).

## Faculty and Staff

### Hiring Systems

The University uses [PageUp](https://hr.uconn.edu/uconns-workforce/recruitment/pageup/) to recruit, hire, and onboard regular and special payroll employees.

The CLAS Business Center works with University Human Resources to submit hiring requests and can provide guidance on hiring procedures, required approvals, and PageUp.

### Regular and Special Payroll

The University uses separate payroll processes for regular employees and temporary or special payroll appointments. The Business Center can help departments navigate hiring, appointments, payroll transactions, and related procedures.

For University payroll policies and employee information, visit the [UConn Payroll Department](https://payroll.uconn.edu/) and [Human Resources](https://hr.uconn.edu/) websites.

### Faculty Summer Payroll

Grant Management Services and the Business Center coordinate summer payroll processing for faculty appointments. Please email [clasgrants@uconn.edu](mailto:clasgrants@uconn.edu) for guidance on summer payroll requests and required documentation.

## Students

### Graduate Payroll

Graduate students who perform teaching or research duties during the academic year are generally employed through [graduate payroll](https://payroll.uconn.edu/graduate/), including graduate assistantships.

Graduate assistantship policies, eligibility requirements, tuition waiver information, and supplemental employment procedures are managed by the Graduate School. Departments should [review Graduate School guidance](https://grad.uconn.edu/graduate-assistantships/) before offering assistantships, overloads, or other graduate student employment.

The CLAS Business Center can review graduate payroll transactions and identify the appropriate payroll category for teaching, research, or administrative work.

### Student Employment

CLAS departments may hire undergraduate and graduate students for administrative, teaching, and research positions. Undergraduate administrative hires should be funded through departmental unrestricted sources.

Student employment opportunities, including work-study and student labor positions, are managed through 12Twenty, the University’s student employment platform. Learn more on the [UConn Student Employment website](https://studentjobs.uconn.edu/).

Before beginning work, student employees must complete the required employment and payroll forms. The CLAS Business Center can assist departments with student employment transactions and answer questions about the hiring process.

## Time Reporting

Employees who report hours use [Core-CT](https://ess.uconn.edu/), the University’s payroll and employee self-service system, to submit timecards and manage payroll information.

Visit the [Payroll Department website](https://payroll.uconn.edu/time-labor-home/) for information about employee timesheet submissions and supervisor approvals.
